Ever since a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife was announced in April 2022, the new sequel, once dubbed “Firehouse”, knows that the idea of “passing the torch” has come to pass itself, and that the idea of passing along the director’s chair is one that’s come along too. That role now lies with Afterlife’s writer and executive producer Gil Kenan, switching with previous director Jason Reitman, who will move into the roles of writer and producer for Frozen Empire.

Though a slight change in production, all of the original cast members from Afterlife will be returning with new castings including; Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, James Acaster, Emily Alyn Lind, with more surprises you’ll have to see to believe! Additionally, Frozen Empire will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the franchise along with being dedicated to the memory of the late director of Ghostbusters 1 & 2,
Ivan Reitman.

In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family decide to leave Summerville, Oklahoma and go back to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – and help the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.– Sony Pictures
